Monday Garden Club #1 of 2011
filed in gardening on May.01, 2011
Well, it’s Monday Garden Club over at Feet Off The Table. I’ve participated the last couple of years but this year I’m starting late. Mostly because I’ve got so much going on otherwise — plus, I decided to do what I did last year and NOT grow my plants from seeds. I did all that work last year to find the frickin birds ate all my plants… and I ended up buying starter plants.
Anyhoooosis…. the other day I went out to cut the grass for the first time this season and walked past my weed laden garden. I looked inside and saw I had onions and cabbage growing! WEIRDDDDDDD because um, I didn’t plant anything yet. The onions came up better than the ones I planted last year… which were not normal onions like the package said, but more like marble sized. Put it this way, they would have been a great size for The Borrowers.
The cabbages are growing off roots or stalks (whatever the heck you gardeners call them) that I never ripped out after last season… and they are growing — but laying down. Strange.
So anyhow… ignore the weeds as I didn’t intend to start the garden yet, but it had other plans.

a jump start on the garden. cool! starting a garden from starter plants is so much easier. i can’t even get near my garden area yet because it is flooded by a new “pond” we have that has overtaken it.

Look at you. You grow stuff without even trying and I can hardly keep anything alive no matter how hard I try, lol.

What a fun surprise! I swear, if I didn’t plant anything in my garden, it would grow anyway from the remnants of gardens past. Thanks for joining in today, er… yesterday.

This is making me want a yard even more! Our townhome’s patio just doesn’t cut it for any kind of growing (too much sun kills most potted things, too), and there isn’t a community garden anywhere near. I love cabbage- enjoy!

AWESOMENESS.
I had impatiens come back one year and I threw a big party in its honor. Well, not really — but I felt all festive and such.
Happy onion and cabbage day!!
xoxo
