Geez! I was only kidding!

The other day on the Discovery Channel we watched something about a girl who got a rare infection of parasites in her EYE from her contacts. She almost went blind and was in dire pain. It’s a very resistant bacteria that walls itself off in a self made cyst so the antibiotics can’t kill it. Freaky. Deaky. Shit.
The next day Middle Child gets something in her eye. Panic sets in. “I can’t see out of the corner of my eye!”
“Maybe it’s that parasite from your contacts”, I said smiling.
(Shane: stern look of disapproval) MC: “I can’t believe you just said that mommmm!”
“I was only kidding it’s probably a fleck of dust in there.” (gave several tips to flush it out & by morning it was gone)
A few days later I get this text message. From her… in her room of all places. Because seriously, why get up and ask a question if you can just text it?
“I’m going blind again. I think I have a disorder. I keep seeing a long stringy thing almost circling at the right corner of each eye. I tried washing it out, blotting it with tissue, ignoring it and visine. I need to clean out my contact case”
(I think I’ve created a monster)

Wow… That’s alot, but just so you know “drama” is the middle name of every child that can think for and express themselves… they usually fall within the pre-teen, teen range. LOL!

Oh boy – sounds very much like me. I read something online and I immediately start feeling like I have symptoms. I don’t like when I get the lice letters from school, I start itching all over. Gives me the willies!

My kids call me Dr.! Sounds like something we went through with our oldest son…freaked him out..then he started freaking us all out. Had to do with a headache…you can probably guess where it went from there.

Hey, I have something called “vitreous floaters” and she might have that. It’s a normal thang, though, so might not interest her too much!
It’s connected to aging, but I remember having them all of my life. You know, those squiggly floaty things? My grandfather always had a bunch of them and found it very aggravating–I assume I inherited the tendency from him. And some people don’t get them at all.
According to the link, a sudden increase is worrisome and could signal a retinal tear, so have it checked. (Retinal tear would be from a big bump on the head–boxers get them frequently, for instance.) But just one or two? No big deal.
(Yes, I give out free medical advice, since my customers treat me like a damn doctor! Sorry bout that, but some habits are nearly impossible to break!)

You know I can joke like that with my daughter but not my son. He’s way too susceptible to taking things literally!

Discovery Channel is a like a buffet menu for hypochondriacs everywhere. I know from whence I speak. (ahem, pointing at self)
