Thank God for Unlimited Text Plans
filed in Raising Teenagers on Dec.11, 2008
Yeah so once we lost our minds and (as a past Christmas gift) put texting on Kaylee’s cell…you know because everybody has texting. And if she jumps off a cliff because her friends do….we’d think that was okay too. (OMG! I’m kidding….don’t call Children and Family Services!)
I got her the 750 text per month plan. In my head I’m thinking…that’s a LOT of messages. There’s no way she can possibly go over that! Plus, we had an agreement that IF she went over, since she was working, she would pay the overage. So how bad could it be?
She went over almost 1400. Messages. Fourteen hun-dred. It was about $140.00. I almost shit my pants when I saw the bill. I called Alltel and talked with a real nice girl there. She offered to put her on an unlimited plan and back date it for me. I had no idea they could do that. Wow~ talk about good (and generous) customer service! I put Kaylee on the phone to thank her because that wiped out the extra $140.00. (Which I was set to actually have HER pay)
When Middle Child got her cell, I put the text (unlimited) on hers too. Apparently that was smart. This evening she informed me that she was ‘sleep texting’ at 3:09am. (She’s a sleep walker, talker, singer, screamer…and now she’s a sleep texter.) A friend asked her this morning, why in the world she was texting him at 3:09am. She had no idea what she was doing. Apparently they were texting in the early evening….she musta been dreaming about it….and the rest is history.

Sleep texting?! That definitely is a modern-day ailment for the new generation. Oh, and I can’t believe she went over by 1400. Was it like her full-time job? That is so funny!

We have the 750 text limit on our phones, combined for my hubs and I, and we have never even come close. I just don’t get it. But then, my husband doesn’t “get” blogging. Meh.

LOL sleep texting?! I have tons of sleep issues but there’s one I haven’t (thankfully!!) done. I gotta wonder, did she text good or was it jibberish? What was her unconcious mind txting at that hour anyway? I hope she didn’t give away any secrets LOL!

Oy! I wonder what it’s going to be like when my kids get to that age. I don’t even want to think about it. I don’t even know how to text now…how am I going to keep up with them?

Yeowza! That is a lot of texting. Then again, what do I know. When I was a kid, we still had rotary phones

1400 over? I would have lost my mind! My teen only gets 400 a month, but she monitors it pretty well and hasn’t gone over yet. Although I did end up getting a texting plan for myself as well, since the occasional texts she sent me from school put me over an extra 10 while the plan was 5. At least you avoided the $140 charge, she dodged a bullet there for sure. Yep, texting is all the rage. At least it beats following your friends off a cliff.

Oh. My. God. Speep-texting, that’s hilarious.
And I must say it was awfully nice of Alltel to reimburse that $140!! Pretty-much unheard of these days.

LOL! About the sleep texting I had no idea there was such a thing!! I used to work for ATT and Cingular wireless doing customer service for a few years and let me tell you I have seen more than one bill with text overages from a teenager! It can really be a scary thing, the highest bill I have seen due to text overage was I think around $400!!!!! I am so glad you were able to get a hold of a nice CS because man that would have sucked!!!
