Oops, I Killed Them Again…
Garden Monday

If Britney Spears were ME and had THIS garden…..she’d sing…”Oops I killed them again. ”
This time the gardening hand of death sprayed the zucchinis and cucumbers with Ecosmart Garden insect killer.
Now listen! I followed the directions to a T ! I sprayed them on Wednesday. On Thursday they looked bad. Like they had the flu.
Shane tried to make me feel better and suggested Miracle Grow. *sigh*. “Did you look at the plants? No amount of Miracle Grow is gonna bring them back f r o m the d e a d.” Look at them! They are like crawling and reaching toward the fence like they’re crying….GET ME THE HELL OUT OF THIS WOMAN’S GARDEN!

Well, he put it on anyways. Didn’t help. This is what my precious little plants looked like on Friday. GOOD GRIEF!
First planting in May?…dead. Second planting 2 weeks ago? Dead. So hopefully three times will be a charm. And THIS time, I’m not doing anything but watering them.
Anyhow, this is how my new NOT DEAD plants looked and a few pics of the rest of the garden this week. I’m not totally sure, but I *think* I was supposed to plant less onions in one spot.

I leave the gardening to the hubby and my daughter.
Because I just can’t take the heartbreak of having to admit that I kill things.

awww, don’t be too hard on yourself. gardening does NOT seem like an easy task. my poor mother has a famous story. i was about 4 and decided to help her out. she planted a lovely garden of veggies. her first and only veggie garden. i apparently came in with a basket of tiny carrots and tomatoes, none ripe for the picking. ruined her entire garden. i feel guilty to this day.

Sheesh! Seems like you can’t catch a break! Gardening organically is so much harder than the old school way. At least there is the farmer’s market right?!

Third time will definitely be a charm! I know it!

Last year was the first year we gardened and we had some great successes and some failures. We figured live and learn right?! So far this year seems OK but once again it is just all trial and error. We just try not to think about too much and more or less take the approach of “lets stick these in the dirt and water them and see what happens!”

Bummer! I give you tons of credit though for not giving up! Did Britney Spears give up? I don’t think so! Just don’t go and shave your head…

Uh oh! I have some of that spray, but haven’t used it, I know I won’t now. Don’t worry I can’t grow pumpkins, or winter squash for the life of me, I’ve tried and tried. I think some plants prefer certain soils over others.
Maybe try planting the new squashes in a different area and see how they do, they also like full sun.

Hey i have a ghetto garden this year. i just planted some cherry tomatoes, zuchinni and squash in the small space on the side of my driveway. As for the green onions i have a cool tip for you. Did you know that if you put the green onions in a vase of water it will grow and you will have a endless supply. just clip off what you need when you need it. i bought a package at the grocery store a few months ago and it is sitting on my kitchen counter growing like crazy.i will never have to buy them again.

Oh, don’t so hard on yourself! It’s trial and error, and we’re always learning something new. I think you have to water those plants daily until they’ve established their roots.

I so admire your stick-to-it-ive-ness. This third time WILL be the charm!
Pretty little lay-out you got there, in your garden, I mean.

I used only cow manure and dirt and water (mostly rain, from barrels) but this too is no great garden. if only the man up the road planted yours and mine we would be eating and canning veggies right now!
