My Yoga Diary – Where did I put that Twinkie?

Okay, so I was doing the Downward Dog pose the other day and OH. MY. GOD! This was the first time in the history of me that I saw my knees from a whole new perspective. Up close and in m’ face. The pretty background yoga music blurred out and my concentration screeched like needle dragging across an old vinyl record.
“Holy shit”, I said as I stared straight ahead in disbelief. It appears that all the fat from my thighs may have melted, sunk and STOPPED right there above my knee. 

When did this happen? When did my knee skin start looking like a shar pei?
How long have I been walking around with fat pockets on my knees? Could it be from not exercising for 44 years? Really? Is this like a pouch….you know…like kangaroos have…or like squirrels have to store their nuts? Wouldn’t it be cool if I could keep a Twinkie in there? OR….the spare car key!
Oh no! What if Jimmy Hoffa is in there? Holy crap!

I’d love to know what you do, because to me your knees look pretty good. I think you’re being too hard on yourself!! I’m thinking about joining my local YMCA and trying the classes. I think I’d love spinning.

Not to make you feel any worse but that knee fat is just due to gravity taking over…it’s bound to happen to all of us. I agree though you are being too hard on yourself. I have joined the YMCA. I am also going to see a dietician to help me balance my protein/carbs.

Exercise is part of my daily life. I work out at the gym and I walk. I do not want to put back on the weight I loss.

I wear my 5 month old baby and take my 2 year old daughter for walks around our 20 acre property….take them to the park….stay active with them

HILARIOUS! I share your pain. I take whatever class is available at my local YMCA. If I can’t make it to a class then I work out with the machines. Zumba is my favorite class. If you get a chance to, try it! It beats yoga. I love yoga but Zumba is really fun.

Oh my, you are too funny! I think you have lovely knees, mine however are ugly, dry and hmmm ugly!

I exercise 2-4 times a week at an hour long Jazzercise class, I LOVE it because I love to eat. SO I exercise to eat

I like to walk and try to squeeze in some pilates on DVD but it is tough my kiddo always seems to jump on me and want to play.

Sheila, your knees look fine. Truly! I gained weight so quickly during my pregnancy that I got stretch marks on my knees. Truly. Sadly, while I have lost weight in other spots, the knee fat has stayed. What. the. hell?
