Today A Boy Learned How To Do Laundry
filed in Raising Teenagers on May.22, 2009
In our house, I have a couple rules. One is that I *generally* don’t nag about the condition of their rooms. It’s their space.
Another is that I will wash the clothes that are put down the chute. I don’t ‘gather’ up clothes and wash them. If you want clean fresh clothes, put them down the chute, or wash them yourself.
Today I had enough. Apparently the reason a certain someone didn’t have any clean socks…or anything else for that matter….is that they were all on his FLOOR.
The good news? I found a lovely hardwood floor under all this!
*In case you’re curious? 6 loads. Six.

In the last few weeks, I was having trouble finding socks for Shea. It seemed like he was down to 2 pairs. Then we looked under his bed…

Wow… this is why I love our washer/dryer (whirpool’s cabrio set). It can wash and dry 16 pairs of jeans in ONE load. SIXTEEN PAIRS OF JEANS!!
Wow I really am old getting so excited about laundry. *sigh*

I am in total agreement with you on this one! Guess what, in the summer, I don’t even do the girls laundry……….they are capable.
I wish I could turn more of a blind eye toward their bathroom and bedrooms, but honestly, I think my girls are pigs, how do they manage to leave the house clean and well dressed……….ugh?

6 loads? I’m surprised he still had clothes to wear. LOL. What age can I start teaching my kids to do laundry?

Six loads is just too many. I fully support your rules (and a boy learning how to do laundry). My parents had us take care of our own laundry as soon as reasonable and it worked out quite well (other than fighting with other siblings for the washer when we’d all procrastinated before going on a trip!).

I wish we had a laundry chute, sounds so romantic. And might be fun to slide the cat down – bet he’d love it.

Yikes! Six loads. I don’t remember when I started doing my own laundry but it was pretty early. My mom got tired of nagging me about it.

Hilarious… This is the best. I think the pic made it even better. LOL! Kids have it sooo good and don’t even know it. I’m not a fan, I must admit, of washing clothes either… but, uh, they don’t wash themselves, right? LOL!
