How to get a teen to do chores.
filed in Raising Teenagers on Dec.29, 2008
Question: How do you get everyone to get off their lazy asses and do some chores? hmmmm? You say:
“Okay, here’s your options. You can help me clean up dog poop (3 weeks worth)….OR….you can:
Do dishes (dishwasher broken remember?)
Vacuum the whole house OR
Clean the bathroom including…the toilet.
Take your pick…first one to call it, does it.”
Alan, quick on the uptake, says “I call vacuuming!”
Kaylee (confused) “What? Huh? What?”
Shane: “Those are your choices, or you help clean up poop”
Kaylee: “I call dishes!”
Kelsey: (still sleeping but when she wakes up, realizes she’s stuck with the toilet) “So. Not. Fair.”
Shane and I did poop duty. Nasty. As you can see, I tucked my sweats into my socks. May have looked stupid, but hey, it’s better than getting muddy, nasty, fecally, grassy yuck on my pant legs. lol As you can see, we had a laugh.

And last but not least, the two responsible for the shit fest…relaxing the day away.

I used to pay my brother and sister to do my chores when I was a teen.

I’ll bet those dogs make a LOT of poop, too. Not fun. I would totally have put the kids on doodie duty.

LOL! I love that the poop cleaning was their motivation for helping out with the rest of the house. Alan’s the smart one.

Oh John, John, John….lol. That’s the small (2 gallon) bucket. Shane wasn’t holding his 5 gallon bucket yet. Which by the way was filled twice. Mine, once. And yes, that’s a whooooole lotta shite! I wish we could train them to pick it up themselves. lol.
