Garden Monday FINALLY! lol

It’s Garden Monday over at Feet Off The Table.
The last few months were hectic with the grad party and all. I didn’t think I’d have a garden this year.
The other day I told Shane that I was running out to pick up some groceries, get some starter plants and start a container garden. By the time I got home, he had the old dirt turned over and almost ready to go!
Either he really does love me… or he totally lied when he said he hates zucchini.
I don’t know how much these bags of dirt weighed but they were a real biznatch to lift into the Jeep. I asked myself a couple questions when loading these:
1. Why doesn’t Sears have a guy there to help load this crap?
2. When was the last time I seriously exercised?
3. Why am I paying $7 for a bag of dirt?
So I came home and decided I wasn’t lifting those again. I called for the boy, “Oh boooy…I need your brute strength… come outside”

Me faking a shoulder injury

The boy lifting the bag

Me laughing at said boy.
I got the new dirt worked in, the plants planted and now I’m just waiting for the harvest.

I don’t have nearly as much of a variety as I did last year, but it is what it is. I’ve got squashes in front with room to grow this year (not enough I know, don’t judge), cucumbers in the back row to grow up the fence, a couple tomatoes, a couple broccoli, and red and yellow peppers.

@brian,
If the world ended I could live on Zucchini. I mean, provided I was still alive and my garden was not destroyed.
I make a killer zucchini bread. It’s not even like there’s veggies in it it’s sooooooooo good.

I just did a wee little flower garden a couple days ago and it reaffirmed why I am not much of a gardener. But it’s so pretty and that makes me happy. So the fact that I STILL have dirt in between the layers of my fingernails is kinda worth it.

Yay for gardening! I’m so glad you found the time to get everything planted, and hopefully the weather will cooperate and you’ll have a bumper crop of zucchini and everything else!

Is it too late to start a container garden? If not, I might give it a whirl this summer. Though I don’t know about $7 for a bag of dirt! That’s crazy! Though probably better than collecting your own fertilizer.

@Laural Out Loud,
You can still start a container garden! Just make sure your containers are big (deep). And if you plant cukes in a container, put them next to a fence…. they’ll climb on it and grow and then you won’t have cukes all over the place on the ground! lol
