Bad Monkey!
filed in Funny stuff on Nov.23, 2009
Um, I love India. I do. So spiritual and beautiful on the soul. But I came across this story in the paper the other day….
Monkey accused of domestic violence may face charges
Okay. So when Shane first read this story to me, I thought he was joking. Because he’s one of those people that can convincingly tell me something outrageous and after I fall for it, he laughs at me. But….apparently in Orissa, India there have been a LOT of complaints filed to the local police regarding a male monkey (named Raja) harassing and attacking a female monkey (named Jhumri) and her baby (named Astaranga).
Now, Mr. Raja monkey is a bad monkey! He’s suspected in the killing of another infant monkey and he is setting his sights on little Astaranga. IF they capture this monkey…he will be PROSECUTED under the Indian Penal Codes that apply towards kidnapping, abduction for slavery and criminal intimidation by anonymous communication.
* scratching head (but not looking for bugs) *
Now. I understand that monkeys are highly revered in India and I totally respect their ways. I suppose that in the West this is just as bizarre to us, as the things that we do here…are to those in India.
But HOW do you prosecute a monkey for heaven’s sake?
Actual story here.
Oh, and then? Shane’s friend sent this in an email. While watching this, I felt the same way that I did when Shane was driving during our trip out West. LOL!

Why do they have to prosecute the poor thing? Couldn’t they just Spank the Monkey and call it a day?! LMAO!

Yeah, I’ve heard monkeys can be real aggressive, like actual pests (stealing food, etc) and the Indian people still never do anything to harm them or limit their populations.
As a vegetarian, I think that’s kinda cool, quite honestly!

That does seem bizarre but when I went to Nepal (11 years ago) the monkeys we encountered were not shy at all and you had to keep a close on them if you happened to have food nearby. Sneaky little things with little to no fear. Still not sure how a MONKEY could be prosecuted but I guess they do things a little differently in India.

Wow. Okay, I never want to drive there.
As for the monkey. What are they going to do if he’s convicted? Is there a monkey jail?
