B.A.D. (Being & Doing)
filed in Inspiration! on Jun.30, 2009
Last month my daugh
ter was an ambassador at H.O.B.Y. (Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership). She’s participated for 4 years now, one week a year. It’s the development of youth in the world.. to inspire, volunteer, lead and motivate. It’s really an awesome experience if your kids ever get an opportunity to participate! Anyhow, this year they had a special motivational group speaking. A group of young adults who travel around in a old hand painted van. Sorta like modern day hippies but not. They REALLY made an impact on my daughter and everyone they met that weekend. They are actually traveling the U.S. volunteering…learning… and helping people. Thus their name: Being and Doing, Inc. (B.A.D.)
B.A.D. Inc. is a cultural-immersion, “voluntouring” project aimed at performing and promoting community and interpersonal service.
If you get a chance, please check out their website and learn a little about them. Very impressive for a group of young kids. They are actually trying to make a difference. (Which in this day and age you don’t see all that often). Also, there’s a donate button in their sidebar if you are so inclined. I don’t normally point to sites and suggest you donate, but if you’ve got a few bucks to spare for a great cause….I’d say push that button. Even if its just $5. It’ll make ya feel good!
And if you don’t have a buck or two to spare…at least leave them a little support in a comment. I’m sure it would make their day. What a beautiful way to motivate the youth in America.

Wow Sheila, Caitie went to HOBY this April, and she was all fired up!! She is busy working on a couple of service projects and giving to our community. She wants to go back next year to help, ie they call it HOBY HEAT. She wanted to attend WLC, but was on the wait list and when we got the approval last week, alas we have made plans. Honestly it was a bit out of our price range too.
I’ll check out the BAD group and share with Caitie when she gets home……she’s away at camp this week.
Thanks for sharing!

What a wonderful group of young people. I’ll have to check out their website. You don’t see kids volunteering and making a difference like that very often anymore.

This organization has been in the works for a little over six months and been executed on the road volunteering for about six weeks. We have started this grassroots organization to try to lend a positive outlook on society and focus on the people and groups that focus on a purpose rather than profitability. We have taken time away from college and our jobs to try to help illuminate the workings of the entire nonprofit system and how we need to focus on creating the future that we want. We are active participants in building our own future. This has been an opportunity of a lifetime to be surrounded and fully involved with a great group of friends while doing something great…
