(this is NOT a paid review)
It never ceases to amaze me, what is actually in some of the products we use every day.    A couple weeks ago I was sent a tube of Natural Dentist Toothpaste  from Cascia at Healthy Moms.  Blogging about it was not required.   But I’m going to anyway.   My daughter has been using the toothpaste for about a week and says ‘it’s good’.  So yesterday I decided to try it.   It didn’t taste any different from Crest or Colgate, which we normally use.   Then yesterday evening I decided to look at the ingredients and compare them to the toothpaste tubes we’ve been using since, well, since we’ve had teeth.

All three have fluoride as the only active ingredient.  But then….something made me shriek!  Crest has trisodium phosphate!!!!!!!!!!      SAY WHAT?!    What is so alarming you wonder?  That is the VERY ingredient that we have used for 12 years in our window cleaning company to CLEAN WINDOWS!   Trisodium Phosphate is listed under inactive ingredients.  And Colgate has variant of the phosphate.

NO WONDER IT SAYS “DO NOT SWALLOW” on the LABEL!

Here are just some other inactive ingredients from my tube of Crest (two of which are also in Colgate):
I’ve linked those that I didn’t know about in case you wanted to read up.

Hydrated silica (also used in various paints/varnishes and in beer production)
Sorbitol (a sweetener)
Titanium Dioxide – Gives the ‘white’ color

Here’s the list from the tube of Natural Dentist (of the inactive ingredients):
Cocamidopropyl betaine (made from coconut oil), vegetable glycerin, silica, sorbitol, spring water, xylitol,  aloe vera gel, cellulose gum, titanium dioxide, natural flavors, xanthan gum and grapefruit seed extract.

The link to the Natural Dentist toothpaste is above in the beginning of the post.  There’s a $2 coupon in there as well as a store locator.  Who knew, this stuff is in drug stores all around me!
