Yikes! The upside is those things eat mosquitoes, I think? If not, then I’ve changed my opinion about scary looking spiders.

We call those zipper spiders because of the zipper line web they make, and they get huge, totally freaks me out too!!!

Yes its a garden spider – they build a cocoon for their eggs and babies hatch in the spring. The cocoon is usually within 4 feet of their web. After they build the cocoon they usually die within a couple of weeks. After October, you won’t see them. I can’t believe you got so close or did you use a zoon lens. LOL

Oh I got pretty close alright! I was sweating and my stomach felt sick. As I inched in, a plant in the garden grazed the toe in my sandal and I almost went into cardiac arrest! lol
