Sometimes Amish Isn’t So Bad.
filed in Raising Teenagers on Oct.09, 2010
So like last week, we’ve had another busy week here. As you can tell from my lack of posts. Yesterday, Shane and I had to attend the kids high school football game because we had to walk MC out onto the field at halftime as she was in the Homecoming Court. She
did not make queen but looked beautiful just the same. It was also a beautiful night, about 65 degrees and not even a breeze.
MC who wore a sun dress. She wanted to wear comfortable shoes and was trying to figure out which pair to wear, 5 minutes before we were to leave. “Those are not dressy enough….”, “Those make you look Amish…..”, “Just wear the heels and let’s go!”, I told her.
As it turns out, all the other girls (with the exception of the cheerleader) wore dressy pants. And MC’s heels created one of the biggest blisters on her foot that I’d ever seen. I’m pretty sure it actually spoke to me….”I am here because of you!….You should
have let her wear the Amish flats! Put me in a wagon when you walk her down the field“ I felt bad but she took it surprisingly well. The poor kid was just about hobbling as we walked down the 50 yard line. A huge, proud smile plastered on her face as they announced our names. But….. I’m sure I’ll hear about that blister this morning.
I came home and got the pictures from my camera. Isn’t it funny that when you look at yourself in the mirror every day, you don’t see so much of a change in your face….and then…you look at a photo and realize how much you have aged? Truth captured in a moment. In the length of a camera flash. Shane with his hair getting all salt and peppery…me with another dozen fine wrinkles. And I cannot believe how old my kids are getting. Just last week my oldest turned 20 and my youngest 16. MC will be 18 in a month. It just seems like these years went so fast. Yet slow. If that makes sense.
Well today will be the big dance. After that I’m hoping everything relaxes a bit.

I loved enlarging these, Sheila. MC is beautiful, like her mama. You looked ‘way ‘way snazzy in that suit and scarf. And I totally see how your “baby” boy looks like his dad.
Ageing — I know, I certainly have. I keep the mirror lighting low these days!!
And you danced too??

I’m so bummed, the pictures didn’t come through for me! It sounds like an amazing experience though. While my boys are younger, 11 & 6, I do totally get what you mean by time going fast and slow all at the same time.

Time; it’s a funny little thing
BTW: I found pepper in my hubby’s hair too .. but I’m thinking it was because I made him heat the clam chowder.
My daughter has homecoming next week. Ever the woman’s libber she turned down a date so she could go with her friends. ::rolling eyes:: I suppose I shouldn’t complain, at least she’s not gone all gaga boy crazed.

I hope your daughter had a wonderful night
And about those wrinkles; I find it best to be on the other side of the camera. Ignorance is bliss!

Oh how we suffer for fashion. If I recall, the girls from my homecoming court wore formal gowns to the homecoming game and announcement. I’m surprised to hear they were so casual. Times, they are a changin’.
I am ALWAYS surprised by what the camera shows me. Like, THAT is what I look like? Sheesh. How do I leave the house?

LOL, Sheila! As for where-does-the-time-go, my cousin just looked at a shot of her and her daughter, but thought at first it was a shot of her and my sister. Her daughter = 13
My sister = 42

I do hate looking at photos and seeing the reality that is me! In my mind, I looks so much younger and fresher!
