Monday Garden Club
Sad Lettuce
filed in gardening on Apr.26, 2010
It’s Monday Garden Club over at Feet Off the Table!
Okay. So. My lettuce HATES me. lol. My peppers finallllly decided to grow though so I s’pose it all balances out.
And all that talk last time about growing bacon and making BLT’s? I couldn’t resist buying some this week, lol.
I think this is the first time I’ve bought bacon in about 10 years. And damn was it a great sandwich!

The one time I tried starting anything in the house none of them germinated…totally forgot about them, infant twins willdo that to a person.
That sandwich does look yummy.
Seriously 10 yrs for bacon?
wow

Now my stomach is grumbling. I love BLT’s!
Maybe the lettuce just needs a little time

Give it time and love they will grow. And no bacon for 10 years??? My hubs would go insane.

How have you resisted bacon’s charms for 10 years? Are you trying to entice the lettuce to grow with it?

I could go 10 years without a lot of things but bacon isn’t one of them. Mmm, bacon! If the lettuce doesn’t go, maybe try again directly into the ground once the weather stays warm for good. Most lettuces are quick crops so you could probably get some to grow right in the garden from seed. The peppers and tomatoes look great though! From what I hear from other gardeners, the peppers take a long time to germinate but with my heat mats they started up fairly quickly so I’m thinking it must be a temperature thing. Oh, and I’m adding heat mats to my X-mas list next year!!!
Lookin’ great and I’ll link to you once I get my act together and get my post up.

My goodness! 10 years without bacon…I think that may be criminal. I love me some bacon (as long as it comes from pastured pigs) and the leftover bacon grease is free fat for cooking! Yum!

I feel like BLT now. I haven’t made BLT’s in months. Can’t wait for the fresh tomatoes for my sandwiches.
I to keep bacon grease in little jar in my fridge and use it for cooking. It gives a great flavor to many dishes.

10 years without bacon!?! I love a BLT. Every time I cook bacon here it disappears before I can get it all out of the pan. lol. We are a crazy bunch of carnivores. Mmmmmmmmm bacon. Oh yeah, veggies are fine too.

Oh, there’s nothing quite like bacon!
Why did you not have any for 10 years??? (Enquiring Jannies are born curious.)
How wonderful about your peppers, I am so proud of you!!
I like Bibi’s idea about the bacon fat in a bottle in the fridge.
xoxo

You’re too funny! We got our patio garden going this weekend, yay! I bought plants that I had to transplant as opposed to growing them from seeds (except the carrots). I figured i had a better chance of keeping them alive if they were already growing, that’s my hope anyways.

I ordered a sandwich with applesmoked bacon and lettuce and roasted red pepper mayo and turkey on a croissant yesterday for lunch…oh and I had it with sweet potato french fries. I think I gained 2 pounds before I even took the first bite. But, man was it good! I, like you, don’t eat bacon very often.
Your lettuce does look a bit sad…is it to late to replant or can you bring some of them back? there is always the local farmers market.

We’re a bacon family. We have it once a week. There would probably be a mutiny if I tried to take it off the menu.
I’m just impressed that you’ve had so much success with all of the vegetables. If lettuce doesn’t work out, pheh. They have these really great places where you can go to buy it, I think they’re called grocery stores, so at least you won’t go without.

Our pastor and church members laugh at us ’cause once a year when the tomatoes are ripe and big enough to cover a piece of bread we break loose and have our ‘annual BLT’. It’s the only time a year I buy bacon. I love it but my Dr. has this thing about cholesterol. Heeehehehe!
God bless ya and have a wonderful Wednesday!!!!

Oh yum!!! BLT’s are one of my favorite sandwhiches..and yet I barely have them! You made my mouth water. Sorry about the lettuce. I’ve never had luck starting it myself. I bought a bigger lettuce plant last year and it did great!
