WW – Start of Somethin New.
filed in Memes on Apr.08, 2009

The beginning of our first garden! Yes, my youngest is 14 and this is our first garden…blah blah blah.
Does anyone have any idea when to actually plant the plants in the ground? (if they actually grow, that is.)
Have ya ever seen how many seeds are in one packet? You could feed a whole village! I think I need to get a couple more starter trays.
More WW right here.

Fun. I do not have a green thumb, so I have no good advice. I would think to plant them in the ground when you see anything sprout?
Happy WW! Mine is at : http://ordinaryandawesome.blogspot.com/search/label/WW

I have absolutely no idea. I bought a couple of packets of seeds but haven’t planted them yet. I’m nervous.

Typically, anything you start in seed pots shouldn’t be planted until after the risk of frost is over in your area. Too early is a bad thing! And you are fine with them in the pots as long as they get plenty of light and aren’t getting too “leggy”.

I don’t have a green thumb either. I always have good intentions with flowers etc but forget to water them. Good luck!

I love the photos especially the one of the both of you!
Funny we started our first garden this year as well!
It looks like you are way more ambitious than we are though, we are planting them (4 plants) in pots this year to see how things go. LOL!

Just wait till it’s not going to freeze at night in your area. I always liked to let mine get a couple inches tall before I tried to take them out of the pod. That way their roots had time to get stronger so they wouldn’t break when I moved them.
Have fun with your garden! Spring has officially sprung!
Happy WW!

We attempted to start tomato plants last year… but they died before we planted them outside, lol. We’ve talked about trying again this year, but haven’t really done anything about it. I hope you have better luck than me! lol

Glad to hear that the weather is nice enough for a garden now! You are in Ohio right? Because planting season is different depending on what zone you live in. I’m in California so I can start planting my garden as early as late Feb. early March. When I lived in Wisconsin I had to wait until Mother’s Day to plant. You might want to wait until then too. Good luck with the garden!

I usually cheat and buy the starter plants at the garden center. The rest(beans, peas, carrots) I wait to plant directly in the ground around Memorial Day weekend (you could probably plant sooner. We’re zone 3-4)
