So, we took a road trip….my mom wanted me to take her to dig for fossils at a place called “Fossil Park” in Sylvania, Ohio. So we strapped her ass in the rocking chair, hoisted her on top the car and headed out on the open road. Okay, so that was a scene from Chevy Chase’s Vacation movie….I actually let MY mom sit shotgun.
It was a little out of the way place in a little town of (believe it or not) Mayberry. Anyhooooo…..Fossil Park is in Olander Park system and it’s like right on the border of Ohio and Michigan. It’s at the bottom of an ol’ abandoned quarry. There’s an active quarry nearby and loads of rock are trucked in and dumped at Fossil Park so people like me can go pick through it. Some people find stuff worth lots of dough. We found little things but non the less fascinating!
You cannot bring any tools in here, just a brush. I’d also recommend a cushion to sit on. And a hat. And some gloves. You won’t go home without finding something….as these fossils are ALL over the place!
Update: thanks to Beachbird2 for this wonderful award!
