Fossil Hunting with Gramma

So, we took a road trip….my mom wanted me to take her to dig for fossils at a place called “Fossil Park” in Sylvania, Ohio.   So we strapped her ass in the rocking chair,  hoisted her on top the car and headed out on the open road.   Okay, so that was a scene from Chevy Chase’s Vacation movie….I actually let MY mom sit shotgun.

It was a little out of the way place in a little town of (believe it or not) Mayberry.  Anyhooooo…..Fossil Park is in Olander Park system and it’s like right on the border of Ohio and Michigan.    It’s at the bottom of an ol’ abandoned quarry.  There’s an active quarry nearby and loads of rock are trucked in and dumped at Fossil Park so people like me can go pick through it.  Some people find stuff worth lots of dough.  We found little things but non the less fascinating!

You cannot bring any tools in here, just a brush.  I’d also recommend a cushion to sit on.  And a hat.  And some gloves.   You won’t go home without finding something….as these fossils are ALL over the place!

Update:  thanks to Beachbird2 for this wonderful award!

Now I need to give it to ten people.  I hate this part.  But I shall pass it on to these people….

Wednesday fun.

Remember just a couple weeks ago when I posted about the lazy tree trimmers hired by the electric company…and how they spent so much time swinging on my neighbors swings?  (pics here)  This after refusing to cut the branches that entangled my wires????  Wellllll….after the storm rolled through on Sunday I had some branches come down and they were hanging on those same wires.

I called the electric company, explained the story of the lazy trimmers and that now these same branches had come down on the wires.    And how I blogged about it complete with photos.   Within 40 MINUTES a truck pulled up to cut the branches blocking the wire.    Of course, they only  did the ONE wire rather than the 3 that are out there but I was satisfied.

That is of course until as soon as they were finished….they proceeded to sit in their truck doing absolutely NOTHING for 2 hours and 30 minutes…parked in front of my house.    Now…with all the storm damage and downed lines and trees in the area (a lot!) I’m SURE they might have had somewhere to go.  Or one would think.  This is why our rates are so high.   Apparently they pay crews to sit in a truck and do nothing for hours at a time.
