Conversation with a 16 yr old
And WW

So I picked MC up from her FIRST drivers ed class.  She moseyed on over to the car and I motioned ‘wanna drive’?   Response:  Head shake – no.  So she gets in.  ((keep in mind she’s terrified of killing someone by driving))

“How was drivers ed class?”

“Oh.  They showed us a mooovie.   A movie about 3 teens getting KILLED while driving!   (a couple tears forming)  One girl was driving and the other two were fooling around and they got into a crash.  Dead.  It was horrible.”

“Well, what else did you learn?”

squirrel“If you hit a cone thingy in your driver thingy-test…and you don’t even knock it over, just bump it…they take 10 points off!!!    BUT…get this….if you hit a pedestrian, they take 26 points off. ”

“26, huh?  ”

“Yeah, 26 points.   You would think a person would be worth more than 26 points when a cone is worth 10.  You automatically fail if you hit a pedestrian.  AND…..our teacher said that you should never swerve to avoid a squirrel…you should just run it over!  Isn’t that terrible?  I’m not running over any squirrels!   Poor squirrel”

“How many points do you get if you hit a squirrel?

“I don’t know”  (obviously irritated with my question)

“None…. if you don’t swerve!”

New grains and new drivers. Not related.

Two posts in one!  Yea!   I just wanted to say thank you to all that ordered from my new business, Aventine Hill Bath Emporium!  All orders have been shipped out!  During the last couple days I’ve taken one more step and also opened up an Etsy Store!  You can visit it here.  Most of the products have been uploaded to Etsy but I still have a couple more to get up there.  I’m also working on a couple new products  and   just unveiled a line of GRAINS.  Which are, I must say, are AWESOME!  I love grains!  maviefolle500maviefolle501maviefolle500

On another note,  MC started driver’s ed classes at school.  So do you remember when we were in school, and driver’s ed was an elective you could take?  Remember when it was free?  Them days are gone pal.  $309.00    Crazy,  man!

I’m hoping that when they get to the ‘in-car’ part, she doesn’t give the instructor a problem.  You see, we had quite the adventure the other day.  We were going somewhere in the afternoon, and she said, “Mom, can I pull the car out of the garage and down the driveway?”    Well, considering this girl doesn’t have a real strong interest in driving (I’m not sure she’ll get her 50 hours in before her temps expire)….I saw this as an opportunity to get a bit of driving time in.

So she went down the driveway and I said, “No one’s coming, just pull out and go down the street.”  I could see the apprehension (she’s afraid she’s going to kill someone.   literally)  But she pulled out and we drove about 500 ft to the stop sign at the corner (which is a main road).  She unbuckles her seat belt and says, “I’m NOT driving on the main street, let’s switch seats!!!  (I know she’s terrified of the main streets…but she’s gotta learn sometime, right?)  So, I didn’t budge and told her to wait until no traffic was coming and pull out.  She started crying.    We sat there forever about 6 minutes.   The whole time she’s screaming at me….you know…the “I hate you mom” bit.   Over and over…and over.  She finally did pull onto the main street, tears streaming down her face, screaming I hate you.  I let her pull off on the next side street.  She didn’t speak to me for 10 minutes and was pissed at me most of the day.

Then on Sunday, at 4:45am, when it was pitch dark out…and everyone else in their right mind is sleeping…MC had to work, so I explained that no one was going to be on the road….she should drive on the main streets….perfect time!  So she did!  It was great!  She didn’t even freak out when we pulled into the parking area and 7 deer - right smack in her path - got startled and started hopping and running every which way.

Life would be wonderful for her if everything was accessible by side streets ONLY.  lol.

A beautiful day at the cemetery.

MC and I went driving today to practice for her drivers test.    So you all get to view some cemetery pics.  (If you are new here and unsure why I teach my kids to drive in a cemetery, please click here.)  Here’s some interesting pics from todays  near death experience   lesson.maviefolle-344maviefolle-348      maviefolle-352
The first pic makes me sad and happy at the same time.  The second is a shot of the ‘baby section’.  (We pay our respects to the babies when we visit, because they are so often forgotten) This is a large section, going back to the little building behind the trees on the left.  Many died of influenza in the early 1900′s.

MUTTER. ? Does anyone know if this means ‘mother’ in a different language?

Okay and this picture?  Well, MC was asking the other day, “How does it work when a man and woman are married for a long time and one dies and the other gets remarried?   What happens when they all die?”

Well, um, this is what happens.  lol.  (These are relatives).  Huh, talk about a big family rift????  George and Betty were married happily.  Betty passed.  Esther then married George.   Esther was shunned by George’s family.   In the end…Esther got the last word.

And here are a couple shots of beautiful monuments.  I almost had to lay on the ground to get the first shot…but I thought better of laying on the ground in a cemetery.  I almost had to lay on the ground to get this in the frame. (But I don't lay on the ground in cemeteries!) maviefolle-346
