My Car Knows I Cheated On It.

So this week was sorta hectic.  I finished up the “Chevy thang” and had to give back the Traverse.   It was pretty fun and I got to be on tv.   Twice.   I met two new blogging moms in my area.   I ended up posting 8 videos for Chevy and 8 blog posts.   As it turns out, the commercials that I had been waiting to see have been airing (the one’s we filmed last month).   But the producer sent us a link to the finished ones so we got to see them.  (#61 is the link, #62 is the second one).  My Jeep was parked in the garage all month and must have been pissed at me.   As soon as I turned the key… the engine light came on!    I fed it some gas and told it how much I loved it and then drove it up to the store.  And by day 2, the light went off.  *whew*

Okay, so then… since Alan has finished up his cross country he’s been bugging me to teach him to drive.   So yesterday we started that whole thing.  We did a few hours at the local cemetery a few months back – my favorite ”teach your kid to drive spot”… but then things got busy at school.   My goal was to get him out on the actual road; he was hesitant.    My girls were given “driving nicknames”:   like… “Brake, Brake BRAKE!!” and “Stay in your lane”.   I’m pretty sure Alan’s will be “For God’s Sake-Brake when turning!!!”.

You know that ride “The Scrambler” at the amusement park?  Yep.  It’s a lot like that when he’s turning a corner.   Fly to the left then whiplash back to the right.  No brakes mind you.   This is my last kid driving.  If I can make it through this without going into cardiac arrest I should get some sort of gift a jug of whiskey.    So we’ve got a total of 3 hours down for the parent/kid driving.  FORTY-SEVENNNNN more to go.  WOOT. *confetti*  Oh, and did I mention it’s snowing here?  ha ha ha.  Good times.

So I’m hoping this weekend to get the rest of the Christmas decorations up.   And with that… I leave you with a link to some handmade holiday treasures! These are easy to make, and actually, even little kids can do these!  Check um out, you won’t be disappointed.  Would I ever steer you wrong?  No. No I wouldn’t.  (and there’s a few more in this post as well)

Happy Weekend Everyone!

Who needs roughage when you’ve got a teen driver?

Okay. So. There is nothing like a teenager driving in the snow for the first time on WAY TOO snowy roads to clear out your bowels. Forget the roughage, just give your kid a set of car keys. Uhhh, I thought I was nervous when she drove alone the first time? *laughs manically*

This is WAY worse.

The snow itself is that light fluffy crap they put in snow globes.  I mean, that’s how it looks.   It’s very pretty-ful.

It makes for a quick shoveling.  Although when your scooping up snow drifts well over a foot high, it kinda feels like work.

Shane took her out driving last night to “practice” skidding.  Which really doesn’t happen ‘as’ bad with ABS.   He’d tell her…’Okay, go real fast!…..”Now STOP!”

She got to come out of a slide several times, so I hope to God she remembers this on her way to school this morning.  And I hope she remembers to text me on arrival.  I told Alan to text me and he said, “Okay, but I’m probably going to forget”.    (that whole ‘man thang’)

Okay, so I’m off to the toilet to wait for my text message.

*update: Alan DID text me!   “Safe but irked”
Then Middle Childs text:  “The roads were scary. On our street I slipped a 180 :(   ”
Then:                                               “And my shoes are soaking wet!”

Miscellaneous Musings – Driving

Middle Child and I were practicing driving and I mentioned she should be farther behind the car ahead of her, because she’s young….and so are her reflex’s.  (Her driving has been more comforting lately, btw)   Until that is, she spoke this statement:

“Don’t worry mom…I’ve got stealth reflex’s…Reflex’s like a NINJA….Wuahhha”
(and then nearly missed the red light)

*blink*

I finally figured it out!    Driving with teens is EXACTLY like the end of the ride on a rollercoaster!  You know…when you pull into the station and your going really fast…then you come to a lonnnnng stop….get thrown back a moment…and then you lunge forward.   Yup.  Just like that.

My brakes have been feeling weird for a little whilethe past 6 months.  Grinding or something.  Rough stops.   I knew it was time to take the Jeep in for a check up when Middle Child, who’s driven about a total of 10 HOURS in her LIFE…got in and said, “Oooo, your brakes feel horrible mom!”

Diagnosis?  Less than 20% left on the back brakes.  Rotors shot.

WHO KNEW?

(btw, MC gave me permission to use this photo since she has big glasses on and is not actually revealing herself on my blog.  Just so ya know.
Oh, and MC is the brown haired one.)
