Alright, so I’m sitting here contemplating if and how to write this post without coming off as sounding completely off my rocker.  I guess I should just do it.  First let me state that I am a completely normal (well, mostly) person.  So when this particular event happened, I was, um…not only scared a little, but excited and at first, disbelieving.   With that said:

We had elderly neighbors right across the street who we had known before moving in (my Aunt used to own my house and these were her friends. Shane used to clean their windows). They were a very sweet couple.

When we moved in, we would talk to them pretty often. Emma would say that she ‘just simply enjoyed watching our kids playing in the front yard’, and that ‘it made her very happy to see them having fun’.

Over the course of the years, Dan would have occasional times where he fell.  Emma would call and Shane would go over and get him back up again. Shane would sit and talk with him.  Sometimes Dan would say he felt ‘embarrassed’ that Shane had to come over, but Shane assured him that he was happy to help, and then would get him off the subject by talking about golf or something.

Sadly, a couple days after the last fall, Dan passed. We attended the very large viewing. We didn’t know very many people there and we mainly stayed at the foot of the coffin while the family introduced themselves to us. Up until this point it was fairly uneventful and we excused ourselves and ventured home. Continue reading
