I’m coming to the realization that the generation of kids currently being educated right now, from preschool to college, are the only one’s that can save the world. Yes, I think it’s that bad.
The community and parents need to take an active role in educating our children. Encourage them to question and explore. Teach them tolerance and compassion, principals and steadfastness. Teach them to work with one another for greater good even if you cannot agree with your opponent.
In other words, teach them what the world up until this point has failed miserably as a whole, to do.
While our country is trillions of dollars in debt to foreign countries (namely China), when everyone and their brother ‘needs’ to own a nuke, when our financial front has the grim reaper standing above it with a sickle, as food banks are getting 3x the requests for help….. we just sit there like the guy from Rain Man…rocking back forth saying “It’s bad, yeah, bad, it’s really bad.”
And then possibly the stupidest story I’ve seen today in the midst of all this corruption and heartache was PETA wanting ice cream to be made from HUMAN BREAST milk rather than dairy cows. I’m all for the ethical treatment of animals but this is a wee bit over the top.
What the hell is wrong with people today? Has the world gone bonkers?
Our priorities are completely ass backwards. We pay athletes bazillions of dollars and we pay our teachers barely enough to survive. And then we’re puzzled because the kids are dropping out or failing proficiencies? We complain that our children are obese and we cut gym class down to one day a week? We complain our politicians are crooks and then we re-elect them?
“It’s bad, yeah, bad, it’s really bad.” (I’m rocking again)
And 40 days before the big election, the American public has YET to really meet the VP Candidate Sarah. She did the ‘speed meeting’ with the heads of state but answered no questions and granted no journalistic access. (Speed meeting is like speed dating….meeting phonies and getting no sense of the real person inside.)
Yep, we better take seriously what we are teaching our kids. They are our only hope. If we keep going down this road, we better start teaching Chinese in our high schools. Our kids are going to need it!
