I am so thankful you posted these. I just had a cracked molar removed 2 days ago (a root canal wasn't possible because of the way it was fractured) and the white filmy junk is all over the blood clot and it was freaking me out. I thought it was infected! Nobody ever told me it was supposed to get a scab... I've had 8 extractions before this one and none of them were like this (that I remember anyway). My wisdom teeth sockets were sewn up and 4 of my baby teeth were removed because the adult teeth were growing in on top of them so I never saw this white film before. Anyway here's my picture. Please ignore my mushy dinner still around my gumline. As you know it's hard to brush around there. http://i43.tinypic.com/2j2934i.jpg

Hi...thank you so much for pictures. I had #13 extracted 3 days ago by a surgeon. The tooth was so infected I had to be sedated. This was after my dentist missed a root on the original root canal attempt. I was still in pain a week later so an endodotist took a shot...twice...he found another canal, and of course said I should be better in a couple of days. By the time I got to the oral surgeon he said the anatomy of the tooth in my mouth was the problem. The 1st couple of days after extraction I didn't need pain meds, but then the third day it got worse again and back to pain meds. Of course by this time I needed anxiety meds too. I was extremely afraid of dry socket, esp because I had already been in such pain off and on for a month. Your pictures of the white gunk were wonderful as I was sure the white was bone or something equally as painful and had myself convinced that since it was white I probably either lost the clot, or never had one. Also sitting around the house worrying about loosing the money from not working was not helping. I'm wondering if you had pain also, but I'm sure it depends upon the amount of initial infection. At any rate I would love to be able to think about something besides my teeth.....thanks again

My immense gratitude to you a million times over!!
Had my top, back molar removed 2 days ago and been worrying about getting food in there, so decided to check it. Big mistake!
Firstly, it was real hard to place a mirror inside my mouth. The only one I could find was quite big and I kept gagging! Plus a small torch as it was quite dark.
Nearly fainted when I saw the white 'gunk'. I was positive it was food, so me being me, I decided to try and remove it with a toothpick! Thank God I didn't prod too much and decided to check online before doing myself real damage.
Thanks to your exceptionally detailed 'documentary' my mind has been totally put at rest and I can relax.
You are a genius!!! My eternal thanks to you. Xxxxx
