Garden Monday….and…
Alien seed pods or mold?
filed in gardening on Jun.27, 2010
It’s Garden Monday at Feet Off The Table!
Well. I didn’t kill anything this week. So that’s a good sign. Seein’ as I was too cheap to buy bird netting as everyone recommended last week, I instead ran a piece of fishing string from one side of the garden to the other and put a noisy-clangy aluminum pan in the middle. It moves with the wind and has kept those pesky birds from devouring my sweet baby cucumber plants. There still is the gaggle of feathered friends sitting along the top of the garden fence everrrry morning….looking around. Seeing what they can get into. So here’s what’s what in the veggie garden this week: *click to enlarge*

And here are prettyful colors blooming this week elsewhere in my yard. *click to enlarge*

And this? I’m not sure what this is. But if you poke it, it’s a jelly like substance inside. Shane thinks it might have started out as deer puke….or…it’s mold. I’m pretty certain that it is an alien pod of some sort that will in time hatch something small and green with large eyes. Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Aliens for sure….
I use old DVDs and CDs in the garden to scare away critters. The glare seems to help keep them at bay.
Cheers,

Hi, how are you?
I had something like that, and the horticulturist that we know stopped by and said there is a fungus called “dog vomit fungus” b’c, well, it looks like dog vomit….

Ewwww, that white stuff is weird and icky! You’re kind of a genius for rigging your own “free” bird prevention. I admire that!

Funny, none of your stuff died this week and some of mine did! Yeah, I too think it must be some sort of fungus. Is that mulch it’s growing on by chance? Mulch seems to be a great place for fungus and mushrooms to grow, being all warm and wet…

Ha Ha Ha, that last picture, yuck. Not sure but it does look like puke of some sort, maybe dog food chucks, lol!
On other news my husband does the same thing with the aluminum pans. But we still have birds too.

Oh, I’m so envious of your veggies! We didn’t get on the ball in time this year. I do not envy the alien slime, however. WTF is that? Lol, I’d be afraid.
