In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is a day to take it easy & look forward to the weekend. And…to take it easy on posting, too…by asking a simple question. Participate or visit other participants by clicking the button on the left.
So Shane and I had a discussion the other day. About our garage door. About how I’ve hit it 6 times. At both our houses…this one and our previous house. I haven’t hit it in about a year and a half just to let you know.
When I say ‘hit’ the garage door…I mean plowing into it and pulling it off the hinges. I’m not going fast mind you….I just hit it. And rip it from the tracts. I’ve backed out of the garage and hit it. I’ve backed in to the garage and hit it. The reason? Shane has a bad habit of lowering the door a couple feet below the fully ‘up’ position. Yeah, stupid I know. I look out my side mirror and I see daylight and back up. Then I hit the door. Once it was so loud the neighbors came running outside.
So my question to you is:
WHO’s fault is it? Mine for backing into the door….OR HIS for leaving the door partly down in my blind spot?
This is what it looks like sometimes if it’s not completely torn off the hinges and we’re able to force it into a semi-closed position.
As you can see, this door is brand new.
Replaced just several months earlier from a previous hit.

I'm Sheila. In addition to raising 1 husband and 3 teens, I've founded

Well, the girl in me says He is wrong! Why would he not leave it open or just shut it all the way?! What the heck.
But then I have my dad in my head saying ” if you didn’t check these things then you have no one to blame but yourself” (from when I 1-left my backpack on the hood of the car and drove off 2- drove around with a flat tire because I didn’t know 3- ran over a bike left in the driveway)
But whatever, its still his fault!
Hmmm. I suppose I could say both are at fault. Totally no help, right? Okay, let’s say this…after you hit it once, he should have learned of your propensity to hit the thing, and not leave it partially open/closed anymore. His fault. Better?

Happy Friday!
I have two answers to your question on whose fault the door incidents might be:
1. It’s both your and your husband’s fault (marriage is about sharing!).
2. It’s neither his nor your fault — the door manifests such abuse because on a subconscious level it doesn’t feel worthy.
What’d ya think?
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
I’d love to back you up, darlin’, but I have to say it’s a little of both. SIX TIMES?! Shane: raise the goddamn door or lower it, what’s with the middle bs? And Sheila: do you walk to the car with your eyes closed?
I love Joygirl’s comment. Really, it’s the door’s own masochistic desire to be hit. You’re actually doing it a favor.

Yep – you have to share the blame on this one…Maybe you could paint the bottom of the door Florescent Orange on the inside or put reflectors on it so that you would see it isn’t up the whole way. Then again…if you are walking to your car with your eyes closed like Cara said that probably won’t help either!

It’s not about fault or blame. Sometimes these things just happen and happen and happen and happen and…

Ok..I think you both are wrong. Only reason is because you know he has this habit of leaving the door partially down and he know you have a habit of sorta…”bumping” into it. You should leave reminders hanging on the door from your garage. Friendly reminders are always a good thing.

I think the woman ALWAYS wins.
Hehe…But seriously, this is very funny to me, because I am SURE that if we had a house (and not an apartment), and I was driving, I would probably do the EXACT same thing as you! So yes, you win. No question about it.

As your friend I think it’s his fault, but really six times? Maybe always just hit the button to check it’s position. What, pray tell, is the reason for just a couple feet down? I raise mine a few inches to give ventilation in there, but it’s easy to see it’s mostly down…

Hmmm…this is an interesting one…As a woman who has a husband who’s ALWAYS leaving cabinets and drawers half open for me to talk into in our darkened bedroom or bathroom, I have to side with you on this one. Or, rather, my bruises side with you.
Seriously, why not just CLOSE THEM ALL THE WAY? Okay…calming down now…!
Totally his fault! What’s with the partially opened door?!!?
