So. This weekend was pretty good. Kaylee and her laundry came home for the week. We went to my parents in Wooster for Thanksgiving and my
sister, BIL and niece came up from Houston. My niece just turned two. This kid is smart as a whip! She’s not verbalizing a whole lot of words, but she knows sign language! Sign language!
Friday we woke up to 3 inches of snow! It was a beautiful blanket and the trees were all frosted. So, we decided to make a fire and set up the tree. Pre-lit. 3 minute set up! No swearing at light strands. On my list of ‘best purchases EV-A’! Life is good.
Shane came in and looked around the living room. He started thinking. I could picture the hamster on the little wheel up there in his brain as he looked around the room. Good God. He says, “Before we (as if HE actually does it) decorate…we should move ‘that’ chair where the tree is…and the tree across the room to where that chair was”. Now, our house isn’t huge, I mean you can only have so many furniture configurations, you know? “Well”, I said, “If we do that, the whole computer desk has to be moved to where the tree is….then switch the tree and chair.”
Long story short…we moved the furniture and then basically had to ‘spring clean’ everything. Six hours later I was done. I say ‘I’ because his ass pretty much sat in his chair (which conveniently wasn’t one that was moving) while he enjoyed a Friday of football, the newspaper, leftovers & a nap. Bastard. I even cleaned up his pile of magazines and newspaper articles that he’s been hording like a 90 year old man “saving”.
During this time we also blasted Christmas carols and sang and danced around like idiots in the living room. Remember Carlton from Fresh Prince? Or Elaine from Seinfeld? A lot like that. The kids got the whole tree decorated…reminiscing as they hung each ornament. I’m so happy that my kids are old enough to do stuff like this on their own. AND we even had a great photo shoot in the snow for our annual Christmas card. Gone are the days of frustration of trying to get everyone to look at the camera at one time. *sigh* and taking 80 pics to get just one good one. And I only had to yell once at MC who thought one of the shots was ‘stupid’ and refused to smile in it.
Saturday, Shane put the lights on the house. Which generally only requires a ladder and the F word. Why is it that the lights all work when you box them up…but NOT when you hang them back up? I didn’t go out and help this year….I was busy assembling basket orders (Yea!) and got those out.
Now that I’m all caught up, what fun stuff did you do this weekend??? Hmmm?
I'm Sheila. In addition to raising 1 husband and 3 teens, I've founded

Sorry I haven’t been commenting, but newborns are kind of needy.
And all that stuff you’re excited to not have to deal with is waiying for me. I have a tree in my living room with nothing on it yet- no lights, decorations or tree topper. Do you think I could start some sort of au naturel/ minimalist tree trend?
And I first have to bathe and groom four children before I can take the 80 crappy pictures of them, hoping for one where no one is making a tortured face or bunny ears.
Jealous yet?

What a fun beautiful weekend. Maybe we will get snow this year, but I highly doubt it, ugh.
Love hearing about the holiday decorating, sounds about right, lots of cussing, silly dancing and ornament hanging, unfortunately mine aren’t old enough to do anything, but take the ornaments off the tree as fast as I put them on,ugh!!!
Come check out my new blog!! I’ve moved.

Wow it sounds like you had an exciting weekend. I love your winter photos. We don’t get snow out here and I miss it.
We were pretty lazy this past weekend. I spent Friday evening in Urgent Care while the kids stayed at Grandma and Grandpa’s. I’m alright, though I just have an infection. We did manage to get our Christmas tree up. I am contently re hanging the ornaments because my two year old keeps taking them down!
I also decorated Christmas cut outs with the kids. Boy that was messy fun! Sometimes I wish my kids were older like yours. Have a wonderful Monday!

We need to get one of those prelit trees. Every year I curse and curse the stupid lights. Maybe this is the year, I’m finally gonna suck it up and go buy one.
The snow looks beautiful! None here yet, but I’m optimistic for Christmas!

Good times. I bet it was so nice to have a full house. We did some spring cleaning too even though it had nothing to do with our Christmas decorating. Don’t ask me why we decided to rearrange all 3 kids’ bedrooms…it did result in about 2 big trash bags (to trash and donate). Just to make room for more stuff. Ha!

Wow, is it ever fantastically gorgeous out there? And I’m with you on the pre-lit trees. I had no idea how phenomenal those were! We bought one last year and you’re right about it being a snap to put together. I can’t believe how aggravating it used to be to wind lights around the tree. So not worth it!
We did the outside lights in a minimal fashion the other day too! Now it’s all festive. I can feel your Christmas cheer through the screen!
I need one of those pre-lit trees! Next year
What a gorgeous snow! We’d love some down here!
Great post. You always crack me up. Too cool about your niece…my kids sign too and love it.

Beautiful snow you’ve got there! Wanna come decorate my house now that you’re done with yours? LOL. There’s not much furniture that can be moved just a whole lot of toys.

That cracked me up when you said, “Kaylee and her laundry came home.”
I dunno what’s going on with the Christmas lights. I think it’s some sort of conspiracy. I have a huge blister on my finger from pulling out billions of those lights. I hate them.
Wow, I would love to stomp on those fresh snow! We have no Christmas tree this year (I sound like a homeless person in NYC), not because of Dubai financial meltdown (LOL) but because we have no space. The small tree that we have broke (how can a Christmas tree break, right? I know.)and we couldn’t find something that would fit in our very tiny living room.

What beautiful pics…It is still in the 60s here….we shall never have a White Christmas. We did just put up our tree this weekend. Kind of bizarre when we still have the AC on. LOL.
