Really Friendly & Sonic Disappointment
filed in Just a rant on Oct.06, 2009
So we visited Kaylee on Sunday and took her and Alan out to break-lunch for their birthdays. Well, we took Middle Child too, but it’s not her birthday til next month. See, way back when, we thought having babies 2 years apart was a ‘most excellent’ idea…and to have them in Sept., Oct., Nov. You know…right before Christmas…even better. FOOLS!

Anyhooo…We tried something new…Friendly’s. (Yes, I know Friendly’s has been around…like forever…but for us it’s new)
Get out much?
The staff was very nice here. They even indulged me and embarrased the crap out of the kids by singing
Happy Birthday. I live for that shit. There’s nothin like a bunch of waitresses clapping and singing loudly right in front of your table and watching the red come into your kids faces. Ahhhh. *sigh*
Sorta makes up for all those temper tantrums in the grocery store.
The food was marvelous. Shane and Alan got breakfast. The rest of us had lunch.

And let me just say….Friendly’s was like a ZILLION times better than Sonic.
.
Here’s a haiku I wrote about our first trip to a Sonic. Let me set the scene. It was opening weekend for the first Sonic in our area. Actually within like 30 miles of us I think. Every once in a while we’d catch a stray Sonic commercial. Our taste buds would salivate….ooooooo.
We arrived to find two lines. One for the drive thru and one for the car hop parking. Yes, the line LOOPED…it was so long. 40 minutes in fact. Yes. We waited 40 minutes in a drive thru line. How pathetic is that?

You are making me hungry! The kids loo like they had a great time. I’ll have to remember the embarrassing birthday meals out for when my kids get a little older. We’re still at the grocery store temper tantrum age.
I’ve never eaten at Sonic or Friendly’s, but now I want to…

I’ve never had much luck at Friendly’s either………and it’s kind of pricy for what you get………..but in any case……….glad you enjoyed, and I love the birthday singing!!!

I had high hopes for Sonic too b/c of what I’ve read on other blogs. Didn’t live up to the hype for me either.
Happy Birthday to your daughter!

I love to embarrass my kids! Your right it makes up for the temper tantrums in the stores. I have never been to either Sonic or Friendlys.

Yes, best haiku ever!
I always liked the Sonic peanut-butter-chocolate milkshake, although sinful and evil. (for this reason, I avoid Sonic!)
Adorable photos.

I grew up with a Sonic around the corner from my house. I used to go there every single day after high school for “happy hour.” Mmmm, cheese tots. They don’t have them around here, though. I miss it. Friendlys. The first couple of times I went there, when I first moved to MD, it was TERRIBLE. Bad food, bad service. But we have one down the street from us now, and go there from time to time. My in-laws LOVE it. It’s good. So fattening, though.

Those Sonic commercials always make me hungry (and sad that’s there’s not one nearby). But now, I don’t feel so sad about it.
We love Friendly’s too…I could go for a Crispy Chicken Salad about now. Mmm…

I can’t believe you waited that long for Sonic food…and some think I’m a crazy a$$, I don’t think so.
have you been back and if so was it better?
I like their foot longs with tots and the chili cheese wrap (not all have this weird wrap= it is chili (duh) with cheese (duh duh) then free-toes wrapped in a flour tortilla. Yes a chili pie wrap.
Ooooo don’t forget a cherry slush or a cherry lime-ade

Oh, no. I’ve learned never to go to a restaurant when it’s first opening. It’s always a big fat cluster.

We went back for $1 drinks, but once scorned it’ll take me awhile to eat their stone cold food again. Bleh.

I must say (please Kayla don’t be reading this when you get older) I DESPISE having a daughter with a December birthday. I really should’ve rethought all that baby making sex I had back in February.

I have never heard of Friendly’s – and I am not so impressed with Sonic – i will stick with Portillos!

A Sonic just opened up in Massachusetts. Seriously…just one.
And we went a few weeks ago. The line was back up for over a mile. It took over an hour to just place our order, and then another 45 minutes to get our food.
So not worth it.

We don’t have Sonics or Friendlys down here. I have been to Sonic up north but man, oh, man I would have been pretty pissed to wait 40 minutes to eat there! Love your haiku prowess.
