My Yoga Diary – Sanskrit Names

For every pose there is a Sanskrit name to go along with it.  Which isn’t surprising considering that yoga came from India.  But I do find it interesting that by learning the Sanskrit name and understanding the roots of the Sanskit words…you can learn a little about the pose.  For instance:  Adho Mukha Svanasana (Adho=downward, Mukha=Face, Svana=Dog, Asana=posture/pose)  Downward Facing Dog!

See, it IS true, you DO learn something new every day!

  1. I have started regular-yoga a million times, only to abandon it–you are making me want to start up again. :)

  2. I had no idea the words actually translated so literally. Cool!
