Aloha Friday ~ this little piggy…

Do you remember 2 years ago…the government started a media blitz with literature & running ads saying we should watch out for a major flu pandemic? Am I the only one who remembers these? Anyhooooo….funny….now we’ve got the swine flu. Was that great timing or WHAT?
They are reallllly pushing this swine flu vaccine and it may be released before clinical trials are performed. Never mind what happened last time the swine flu hit in the 70′s and more people got sick/died from the vaccine than the actual flu…..Never mind that the World Health Organization warns of the dangers of untested vaccines. Never mind that testing on civilians as well as military has been done in the past with grave mistakes……And, oh yeah, I know we said thalidomide was safe…but…..ooops!!! But look, who knows. Maybe it’s not that bad. I mean, transfats and aspartame and MSG are all found to be just fine…they wouldn’t mislead us with something like a simple flu shot would they?
MY question is…….drumroll………
Will you get the new swine flu vaccine? (oops, sorry…H1N1… as not to taint the pork industry)

Probably not. Did you know that, way back when, they used to have x-ray machines in shoe stores, so that people could look and see how well their shoes fit? The radiation wasn’t contained well, and supposedly many shoe salesman got cancer as a result. I always try to remember that when new “medical breakthroughs” come out. Something doesn’t have to be proved unsafe to be so. Sometimes, it just hasn’t been tested enough.

Absolutely not.
With that said, I am thinking of getting the regular flu vaccine (which I haven’t done in past years) but working in the pharmacy around sick folks(one of our patients passed away from h1n1 virus complications) makes me a wee bit nervous.

Good point. And no way. I will surely pass on the vaccine until it is heavily tested, and many, many people have tried it.

Hmm. . . . .Don’t know yet! I do get the regular flu vaccine, but only started doing that 4 yrs. ago – was recommended I do that after a bout with cancer. Also my docs want me to the pneumonia vaccine. I’m just a little hesitant to do the swine flu vaccine yet??!!

Ooo I shall have to have a go at that maybe next week. [playing catch up] So yes, we shall all be getting the vaccine as my mother in law is of the age where we have to be careful and then both the boys have asthma and allergies. No point in just doing the vulnerable so we’ll all participate. Squeak!

I have never had any type of flu shot so I will not be getting this one either. My husband gets a regular flu shot every year and he has had the flu more way more times than I have. Figure that one out!

No way, and neither will my kids. Thank the maker, they don’t go to public school. As far as I can tell, the swine flu is hype and not even as serious or as prevalent as the regular flu’s that come out of Asia every year. Is it even a real epidemic? I don’t think so. Just another way for the govt to scare us into giving up more freedom.

I got a flu vaccine (in a drive by thing where you stick your arm out the window) this year and it seemed to work pretty well so I will probably stick to that.

I firmly believe in the regular flu shot. I know that it has helped us to avoid some nasty items that have been around. With that said I need to talk to my SIL (a PA) and brother (pharmacist) to hear more about the H1N1 vaccine. I know that they are opting not to get it for themselves and their daughter. My SIL is also pregnant w/#2. Today while talking to my mother on the phone she mentioned that there is likely going to be 3 shots this flu season. Oy! That is not going to go over well with my boys.

I am told that they will add the swine flu strain to the current flu shot offered for next season. NOt sure I’d pass it up as the flu shot totally helped us this year.

Nope. I don’t get the regular flu vaccine why would I get this one? Meanwhile, H1N1 has proven to be less lethal than any other flu strain, why are we all up in arms?

I don’t think so. Aren’t most swine flu patients just getting sick and then getting better? If I was 90 years old, I may consider it. We do usually get the flu mist and haven’t had the flu in years. But swine flu? I’m not too worried about it. The vaccine sounds more dangerous.
