In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is a day to take it easy & look forward to the weekend. And…to take it easy on posting, too…by asking a simple question. Participate or visit other participants by clicking the button on the left.
Kaylee picked up her books…for 1st semester / college. Only one is new. And yes, she shopped around!
$314.63 (yes, that is for the 6 ‘books’ in that photo. Six. Books.) And she’s still waiting to hear from 2 professors on what books she needs for 2 other classes.
YOU HEAR THAT ELIZABETH? I’M COMIN TO JOIN YA!
I’m sure this is a drop in the bucket compared to what some kids are paying…but still an eye opener!
Oh, and did you know that colleges tack on a few hundred (sometimes over a thousand) dollars to tuition costs for HEALTH INSURANCE? Yup! You’re stuck paying it if you don’t sign a waiver stating your child is covered under your own plan. It covers them if they are admitted to a hospital. $2000/Max/Yr.
My Question: Have you purchased anything recently that made your heart sink?

I'm Sheila. In addition to raising 1 husband and 3 teens, I've founded

Having to buy another car only one month after paying off the other one just made me want to cry.

You can get deals on college books on Amazon.com and eBay fyi.
Actually, three people in our house are taking college classes and it was the tuition (added fees wth?) that blew my mind.
Happy Friday!

We’re doing some much needed remodeling and pretty much everything about it is giving me that feeling! I know I’ll be happy when this part is done, but it’s not easy.

I had to get a root canal and crown. Over five hundred bucks for one tooth, and I may have to have another one done! …I feel a lot better, though.

Yes, our fridge broke and we had to replace over $150 in groceries plus pay for the repair with money we didn’t really have.

Oy, the cost of books for college is sick! As a science major I often spent $100 for each of my text books. Last big spend was our refrigerator and car – heart sank on those. Waiting to do the bathroom and roof areas soon.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment! I do love me some comment! It is great fun to meet women across the country and world through the blogosphere. We think our Baby Grands are both quite spectacular! Watching our sons raise their sons, well it is really precious to us. Declan (the one with the blond curls) is very expressive and of course, he adores his daddy. Seeing him “look up to his Dad” . . . well, that was a moment.
Thanks for stopping by. Drop by again and stay a while.
Now to my response. It seems like so many things have become so expensive. Our hot water heater, located up stairs, cracked and overflowed. It caused our bedroom ceiling to collapse while we were sound asleep, and flooded our armorie cabinet and TV, ruining the carpet and a rug! Insurance helped but it was a costly and a scary household expense! Blessings.
We had to have the plumber out to fish out mardi gras beads from the tub drain. Not $325 fun. Then the hubs’ car tried to lose its muffler. Not $500 fun. THEN the truck window FELL OUT. Not $400 fun. All in about two weeks.
When I was in college, I definitely remember having to buy $100 books. I think it wasn’t unusual that I spent $500 or more each semester. It sucked. Big time.

Everytime I grocery shop. Grocery items have increased in price up here constantly. We have a family of six and we spend close to $1000 a month.

Braces for my son, septic issues (plumber) & a Hubby who is either getting a 2nd masters or a doctorate. Not fun trying to do all three @ once.

Car insurance for my girls. Their 16th birthday was Wednesday, and its scary what it’s costing us for a 3rd car and 2 teen drivers!
I’ll be sharing your college book pain in 2 years………..x2….ugh!

lol, $2200/month for a townhouse in Houston, Tx! That’s not what we’re paying, of course, that’s what they were asking. But, my husband, ‘the bean counter’ counter offered. On top of that $325 for the first 2 weeks of air conditioning!
Oh I remember those collage book years… painful.
Nope, I have been real tight with my money these days. I do want to have siding put on my house but the cost associated scares me to death.

Ugh college is such a racket. The fees and the books are killer. What is even more frustrating is to hear you need to buy the book and then they never use it! grr.
Nothing terribly big sticks out with recent purchases. I’m still getting over the sticker shock of getting married last month. The hidden costs really add up.
