I’m not sure if I’m for or against it. They have been talking about getting them in my state, but I doubt if that will happen anytime soon.

Why not? If gambling is going to bring your state more revenue then they should go ahead with building casinos. We should do something like that out here in California. Our state is so bankrupt right now that they had to let a bunch of teachers go and now our county is laying off police officers. Starting in August they won’t respond to break ins, robberies, peace disturbances. If you get something stolen from your home you have to file your own police report online. And the sheriffs department is not going to follow up on your report so it is just a waste of time anyway. I think we need some casinos so we can hire these people back.

Wow, that’s the second soul reference to politicians in my comment area on this post. I’m most impressed! Love these comments! And yes, sleezeball in the dictionary is the same as politician, lol. Btw, I think the parties are the same in all states, just like you wrote…sniping unless it’s their idea.

It sounds like your governor went to the same school of politics that ours did. Four years ago, when our republican governor pushed for slots, our democratic mayor of Baltimore pushed really, really hard, along with all of the dems in our congress to defeat it saying what a drain it will be on our state, how it will destroy families, blah, blah, blah. Fast forward a couple of years, now that mayor is the governor and all of a sudden slots are the answer to everything and he starts pushing and manages to get an AMENDMENT TO OUR STATE CONSTITUTION allowing slots. They spent millions selling it to voters. Meanwhile the casinos aren’t even bidding on it, because it’s such a terrible deal. Way to go, O’Malley, screwed your constituents again.

The only reason I mention political parties is that in our state, as is so often the case, the two sides will snipe at each other, regardless of the validity of the argument, just because they can’t let the “other side” win. This was one of those cases. In my opinion, politicians are all sleazeballs. Very few make it beyond one term with their souls intact.

Doesn’t surprise me a bit. I once heard that almost all politicians have tarnished their soul. Yikes, right?
