Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny

UPDATE to the previous post: 2/16/09 4pm
Kaylee woke up with a big festering nasty stye. She had one last week and it went away. Away to the other eye, that is. lol. Anyhow, normally I don’t take my kids to the doc for a stye (and we’ve had many) but this was different, because this one had made the entire right side of her face swell, from the eyebrow to the cheek bone. The doc prescribed an eye antibiotic for “Uncle Fester” (her new nickname, lol). I went to the pharmacy to refill the kids other scripts and get this stupid eye antibiotic. (Which I may add, renders them almost blind for an hour) Here’s the receipt:
$ 70.96 for this little itsy bitsy tube.
$ 110.86 Singulair (asthma meds 30 day supply-since it’s a brand name, the $100 yearly deductible applies.)
$15.00 x 2 for each allergy script – Allegra generic
Now….I’m NOT sweating the small stuff. Or…in this case the itsy bitsy stuff. lol. But this is all after I paid our monthly health premium of $423 today.
ha ha ha ha! I’m laughing all the way to the bank! (Wait! why does the bank have padded walls and an arts & crafts room? Why?)
I vote for a national health plan.

That’s a horrific medical bill, but all too typical.

Good lord. Does your kid really need that eye? I mean, she’s got two, right?
I feel for ya. Big pharm has no shame. I, too, say bring on the national health plan.

Gracious! That is just terrible.
We got socked with $1,600 out of pocket for my husband’s kidney stone bill. We only paid $2,000 for having our baby at the same hospital! At least he got some jell-o to bring home with him. I’m with you. Let’s go national health plan.

So wait a minute. You HAVE insurance and you still had to pay that much? Is it that way all year long or only until you meet the deductible? Crazy!! Our health care system needs some major work!!

Melanie- yes, that’s the deductible. $100 per person per year on brand name only. Then after that just a $30 copay on brand, $15 generic. But Singulair doesn’t come in generic

Man oh man, remind me to not get a stye (or any othertype health problem,) as we are without health insurance now.
Highway robbery on those prices. Reminds me of this show once where they alalysed horse tranquilizers wtih human ones and although found to contain 100% EXACTLY THE SAME INGREDIENTS (albeit in somewhat smaller amounts for the humans,) the horse pills were like $2.00 apiece and the human ones $17.95. Okay, admittedly I don’t have the exact figures to memory, but you get my drift.

Oh my gosh! That is expensive. I’m glad that my kids don’t need prescriptions. I agree that something needs to be done with the health care system in this country.

Ridiculous! Make sure you keep that tube in a safe place in case this happens again. My husband takes a daily medication for his narcolepsy that is $600 each month. For a while the insurance wouldn’t cover it, because they said it wasn’t necessary. Necessary my a**! They pay most of it now but we still have a hefty copay. It’s always a fight!

I hear ya!! I HATE deductibles. I picked up antibiotics for Kayla the other day and it cost me FIFTY DOLLARS!!! I know that’s a fraction of what you got stuck with but geeeeez! Remind me why I pay so much for insurance AND visits/scripts/etc?
Oh right, b/c the health system SUCKS!

OUCH!!! We don’t have an annual deductible, but we pay @ $700 a month for medical insurance………..it kills me! Our 3 levels of drug co pay are $20, $40 and $60……….it just puts me over the edge to pay for meds!
