Thanks to Minxi Mimi for this wonderful award! Let me just say that I got this like a week ago and I’ve actually put a LOT of thought into not only who to give it too, but what it means. I’d like to share it, so….if you are in any of my blogrolls (there’s two lists in the sidebar), I invite you to take this award with you. The Marie Antoinette Award.
The rules are:
1) Please add the Marie Antoinette award photo on your blog
2) Place a link to the person from whom you received the award
3) Nominate 7 exceptional blogs to receive the award
4) Put the links to those blogs on your blog
5) Leave a message on their blogs to tell them they are the chosen ones!
Now, this is the first time I actually did research having to do with an award, but I was intrigued. Marie Antoinette. Hmmmm. I knew she lived a lavish life and was beheaded. Why’s there an award with her in it?
Most people think she was a ‘great indulger’, but don’t know about her actual life. (me included)
Among many other achievements/accomplishments….The Queen was a patron of the Maison Philanthropique, a society which helped the aged, blind and widows. She taught her daughter to wait upon the peasant children, sacrifice her Christmas gifts (to buy fuel and blankets for the poor) and bring baskets of food to the sick. She started a home for un-wed mothers at the royal palace and adopted 3 poor children to raise as her own as well as over seeing the upbringing of several needy children.
The Queen also spoke her mind and minced no words, and brought attention to the wrongs around her. She had high moral standards, for herself, her children and those in her presence. In fact, she reformed the court by making them reform to higher moral standards. (we could of used her in DC)
During the famine of 1787-88 she sold much of her flatware to buy grain for the people and herself ate cheap barley bread so she could give more money to the poor. The Queen and King’s kindness stopped only when they were jailed in 1792 and were executed.
So, you see, I’ve put a lot of thought into this one. In fact, I’ve spent the last week updating my blogrolls in anticipation of posting this award. I’ve weeded out the roll, and added many to it that I visit frequently. Blogs that I feel are worthy recipients of the Marie Antoinette award. So if you’d like it, grab it and know that someone thinks you’re blog is special, and definately in the spirit of Marie.

What an interesting award! Have you seen Marie Antoinette by Sophie Coppola? It’s a very interesting look at this much maligned woman.

Wow! You really did do your research. Thanks so much!
By the way, off subject, but where did you get that nasal stuff? I think I’m going to need it!

Indeed, sound like you need a ‘big brain’ award yourself for that research. I knew some of that because British History covered the darned froggies, especially the ‘let them eat cake’ which was really ‘brioche’ = egg enriched cake.
So if this is for me too, thank you so much for thinking of me. I usually write at the weekends but we have another birthday /party / sleepover, so I suspect I shall be a little low on the blogging front for the next few days. Thank you so much.
And well done you, for all your sterling research [a bit like MythBusters!] Cheers.

I don’t know much about Marie Antoinette other than that whole “Let them eat cake.” quote. Thanks for the info, it makes the award giving that much sweeter. Although I’m afraid I won’t be able to live up to her legacy, I’m very flattered. Inspired even to maybe bake a cake for the masses.

What great research. I am impressed. I am still not sure I fall into that category but I thank you ever so much for thinking that of me. You, on the other hand, do deserve it. Thanks, I would be honored to take it though.

Thanks for the award. I’m glad I found you – I love all your stories especially about the kids. I love learning more about Marie – I only knew she was beheaded. There’s so much more to her.

OK never mind I see myself now. “Jennifer’s Journal”
FYI, you might want to update the link to http://www.JenniferSuarez.com since once in a great while, my IP address (the 71.176.78.161:443 part) changes and you’ll end up with a dead link.
That way it’ll forward to the right place if it does change.
Why the numbers you may wonder… well Verizon wants to charge a million trillion dollars (ok SLIGHT exageration, but not by much) for a business account so you can host your own website. Being a programmer I figured out a way to buy the cheaper residential FiOS service, and just route it through another port that they left open.
I’m evil, but it works. So long, borning technical story short, http://www.JenniferSuarez.com will get you to my home regardless of my ever changing IP.
