Happy Birthday Middle Child!  16 years ago I was swearing up a storm brought on by the most horrendous pain in the world.  Childbirth.  lol.  Shane had strep and a temperature of 104 but he put on a mask and stuck out all 23 1/2 hours of labor (4 1/2 were pushing, mind you).  Yes, you read that correctly.  He did really well until he made that near fatal mistake of trying to comfort me during hard labor.  He said, “Take it easy…it’ll be okay”.   Ahhh DUH!   After my head spun around and I stopped talking in my scary voice, I let that remark go.  But he came real close to getting his own bed at the hospital…..if ya get my drift.

We were lucky enough to get a practicing intern who was extremely interested in the show Jeopardy.  She’d happily yell out answers while holding my leg and saying….’breathe’…..’push’.  (You don’t even want to know what I said back.)

Our OB-GYN….you know, the guy you see for 40 weeks and place all your trust in….was on vacation the week I went into labor.  Of course, had my daughter been on time, he would have been there.  We ended up with some yutz who stuck his head in every 2 hours and finally showed up in the end just in the nick of time to catch the baby who finally decided to jet out.

Childbirth is such an incredible experience.  It never ceases to amaze me just how much a body can go through.  Well, a WOMAN’S body that is.  I’m pretty confident that a man’s could not go through it.  To start with they cannot even handle a COLD.    Ha, I’d like to see them get an episiotomy!  Blahhhhaaa!

I gave birth very close to midnight and believe it or not, they wanted to release me at 8 am.  I’m like, uhhh, negative.  My insurance allows me a full day, and I’m getting my money’s worth.  I wonder how long you get for a regular birth these days.  With my first daughter I got 6 days for a C-Section.  And back in those days you could smoke at the end of the hallway in a little seating area.  lol   Man how times have changed!

When pregnant ladies ask me about childbirth, I don’t lie.  I tell them like it is.  It’s the most intensive horrible mindbending earthshattering pain in the universe.  Request your epidural early!  If someone would have told me this I may have been better prepared!  lol.

  1. Ahhhhh. The days of smoking in the hospital, or offering your doctor one before surgery. Yep. T’was there and did that too. I only had 17 hours of labor and grunting. . . . . . THIRTY NINE YEARS AGO. Oh crap. Why did I do the math!!?? Labor pains are nothing compared to the realization that they occurred THIRTY NINE YEARS AGO.

  2. Thank you for visiting my blog and the kind words. I do a FRIDAY’S READER’S SPECIAL that everyone seems to love, where I post the comments with linkbacks to their sites, and answer every one that I get during the prior week. Yours will be there too.

i’m thankful to be a man every day of my life :)

  4. Yeah…really we should be the ones “celebrated” on our child’s birthday – haha! For the past two years…(this week to be exact) I found out I was pregnant (twice)…the first time…yay…I had NO CLUE what I was in for….last year, I was like – OH CRAP (or some other choice words)…I HAVE TO GO THROUGH LABOR/DELIVERY AGAIN!!!! Well, hope you have some fun celebrating over there — Happy Birthday!

  5. Three of my four OB/GYNs were of the catch-em-and-go variety. Go figure only my female doctor was the one who stuck it out beginning to end. Epidurals are a blessing! Happy Birthday to middle child!

  7. Ah yes childbirth. With daughter #1 I threw up all over my (ex) husband. Not on purpose of course, but I had a contraction, felt sick, and he was in the line of fire.

Daughter #2 I screamed, cursed, cried, and almost punched out a few people. BUT I got that epideral much much sooner to the relief of everyone.

Happy bday to your middle one!

  8. Happy Birthday Middle Child!!

And I know that since my hubby is certain he is dying when he has a simple cold that he could never go through having a baby.

And I think you get 2 days now with a natural delivery. I was in labor for 34 hours before they decided to do a c-section, so I was in the hospital for 3 days.
